Arsenal's move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has hit a snag.

ESPN FC reports Leipzig are understood to be aware of their interest in the 20-year-old whilst an official bid has yet to be lodged as the Bundesliga side aim for a contract extension.

But after conceding four goals in a Europa League final hammering at the hands of Chelsea , the Gunners have missed out on Champions League football next season.

As a result, it is likely to prove too difficult for them to raise the funds to meet Leipzig's asking price as Emery is forced to work on a tight budget without the funds from UEFA's most lucrative competition.

Upamecano is also said to be less inclined to move to the Premier League to play Europa League football given Leipzig have qualified for the Champions League having finished third in the Bundesliga.
